A US appeals court ruled on July 5th 2016 that sharing passwords was punishable under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act ( CFAA). Ruling issued by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in the case USA vs Nosal II, employees sharing passwords was determined to be a Federal crime. The court decided it is illegal to share your password with other employees and former employees who use them to gain unauthorized access to company information.
